Remember the times you sat in the basement, were told to go to bed, but you refused and continued to cheer on your hometown New England Patriots? You knew that this fight to the death in the most important NFL game would be the best night of your life.
You remember the celebration multiple days later: Duck Boats roaming the streets of Boston, Tom Brady hoisting up the Lombardi Trophy, and Bill Belichick giving an uplifting speech.
Now, we are a few years removed from the glory, and we have had multiple seasons of mediocre performance. The wait is over; after a five-year rebuild, the New England Patriots may see a Super Bowl appearance in the near future.Â
The Pats found their star quarterback in Drake Maye. In 2024, they drafted him with the third overall pick. After experiencing failed seasons led by struggling quarterbacks, they placed trust in the rookie out of the University of North Carolina.
In 2025, the Patriots are 11-2 and beat two elite teams: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills. This is due to Maye’s performance. According to a Sports Illustrated Article, Maye is playing at the same level as the young Tom Brady. As a diehard New England Patriots fan, I’ve had conversations with fellow RMHS students about Maye’s performance. My friend praised his ability to stay calm under pressure in moments of setbacks. For this reason, RMHS students can be excited for what future seasons entail.
I will admit, the 2025 New England Patriots do not have great receivers. During the New England Patriots’ Dynasty, they had elite talent: tight end Rob Gronkowski, receiver Julian Edelman, and receiver Randy Moss. The 2025 pass catchers do not compare well to the dynasty players. What makes the 2025 team successful is their unselfish offensive game plan. Drake Maye throws passes to a mix of decent options: receivers Stefon Diggs, Kyle Williams, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Mack Hollins, tight ends Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper, and running back TreVeyon Henderson. Because of the variety, Maye can score quickly.
The 2025 New England Patriots may not have all the superstar talent needed to win a Super Bowl this year; however, the team can add players in future years to this developing offensive group. The Patriots currently have the most money to spend in the NFL, which means they can invest in the future. If they do, the New England Patriots could find themselves in the Super Bowl.
To RMHS students convinced the New England Patriots will stink forever, this is your hope.
Turn on your TVs, and invest in the New England Patriots for the next few seasons. You should be excited for the young core of Patriots players and additions to come.
We can’t stop at 6 Super Bowls. I’m greedy, but I know the New England Patriots can win a Super Bowl soon.
