The RMHS Leo Club is a youth service club that focuses on volunteer opportunities and strives to make a positive impact on the community. The club was revived last school year by president Kai Richardson (‘27) and advisor Ms. Allardi of the English department.
The Leo Club is a national organization connected to the Lions Club, itself an international non-profit service organization. The Lions Club started in 1917 and has grown to over 100 countries and millions of participants. The Lions created smaller schoolwide clubs called Leo Clubs to provide high schoolers with opportunities for development and community contribution.
This year, the Leo Club has gained over twenty new members across various grades. When asked about the growing population of the club, chair member Sophie Karlskind (‘27) shared, “I think last year it was mostly juniors, but I think we have gained some freshmen and sophomores this year.”
Leo Club participates in various activities throughout the year, many being volunteer opportunities which benefit both students and those in need. In terms of specific volunteer opportunities, Richardson stated, “As a club we’ve done wreath drives, glasses drives, made cards for senior centers, volunteered at the reading senior center, and helped out with friends and family day.” They also do a variety of other fundraisers and donate the profits to various organizations. Ms. Allardi responded that the club “definitely impacts students by giving them the opportunity to volunteer in the community. We try to open it up to as many opportunities as we can find. So in theory, having people being able to help is a good thing.”
As Leo Club continues to grow their plan is to create an even larger platform here at RMHS and increase their impact on the community. Anyone interested in joining the club can stop by room 325 to find out more information.
