With their undefeated 9-0 record, the RMHS gymnastics team won the League Champions title for the 12th time after winning at their senior night on February 5, 2025.
The RMHS Girls Gymnastic team continues to set records as they win their 12th League Championship. Principal Callanan said, “They are a very accomplished team with a lot of standouts but also do well overall as a team.” Due to winning the League Meet at Burlington High School, the team moved on to Sectionals where they placed 4th. This gave them a spot at the State meet.
The team consists of girls from grades nine through twelve, with senior captains Solana Maldonado, Khalen DePalma, and Kelsey Conant leading them throughout the season. All three captains have been present on the team since their freshman year and have been competing in gymnastics since they were young. When asked about what the future might hold for RMHS gymnasts, captain Kelsey Conant (‘25) shared, “We still have a lot of good gymnasts on our team that will be able to hold their own and have some more great results.”
The team’s individual success is also prominent, with six members qualifying for the State Individuals meet and five moving on to the New England Interscholastic Girls Gymnastics Championship. Although they hold these successes and accomplishments, the team has received little recognition from the student body. A math teacher at RMHS and club gymnastics coach, Mrs. Kylie Wells, noted, “I think gymnastics is a tough sport because it’s not a mainstream sport. It’s not one that you really hear about and people only tend to care about it every four years because of the Olympics. And I think also because they don’t compete on campus, kids are less likely to go watch them and they never talk about it during the announcements, which is frustrating.”
The RMHS Girls Gymnastics team often performs at Reading Gymnastics Academy (RGA), yet the League Championship was held at Burlington High School. Nine teams performed at the League Championship on February 10th, including RMHS.
