The RMHS Drama Club fall production of “Catch Me If You Can” will take place in the Endslow Performing Arts Center from November 7-16th.
The musical is based off of the Dreamworks Motion Picture film “Catch Me If You Can,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The story highlights the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., a con man in the 1960s, who was able to convince people to believe that he was a pilot, then a doctor, and then a lawyer, all between the ages of sixteen to twenty. Abagnale spent years on the run from the FBI, eventually getting caught and going to jail, only to go on to get hired to work with the FBI, teaching them how to spot con men and forgers like himself.
The musical version is an exaggerated take on Abagnale’s story. Aiden Kiley (‘26), who was cast in the lead role said, “I auditioned for Frank because I felt a general attraction to him, his vocal ability, and his acting diversity from what I’ve normally done. So it was very inspiring and very exciting when I found out that I had gotten the role that I was looking for.”
Mrs. Cunha, a teacher in the RMHS Fine and Performing Arts Department and the production director of the musical added, “Everything’s really, like, jazzy and exciting. He imagines his life as almost like a TV variety show, so like, it’s a throwback to the ’60s, which was fun. Like, the music is fun, and the costumes are really cool.”
The drama club works on this production six days a week, and adds in Sundays the week before the play starts. Kai Richardson (‘27) discussed his role in the show. “I’m doing electrics, which is like helping out with the lights, and I’m doing deck crew, which is like moving the big props on the days of the show.” Students also work on set builds, lights, sound, costumes, hair and makeup. The amount of work that goes into the production before it starts is immeasurable.
Ms. Cunha’s theme for the 2025-2026 school year is “Identity.” Aside from “Catch Me If You Can,” the drama club will present two other plays this year, “St. Lucy’s Home For Girls Raised by Wolves” based on the book written by Karen Russell in February, and “Clue” based on the 1985 film in May.
