The RMHS band has been one of the best in the state over the years with countless trophies and plaques to their name. They have played their classic songs at football games since my mom and uncle went here. When they are playing, the teams at the games play better, and they get the student section pumped. I believe that having the best band in the state has had a direct impact on Reading having one of the best public school athletic departments in the state.
There is one thing the band could do–that it does not currently do–that would expand their already huge contributions to the school. They could play at home hockey games!
Now, I fully understand that the band cannot attend all games. They are very busy with their competitions and preparation. From an outside perspective I see that they have intense and long practices all day into the night. During the summer I can even hear them from my house all day. But their hard work pays off making them one of the best in the state.
If they could appear at just a few hockey games, though, it would be fun for them and the hockey fans of Reading.
This would greatly help the players on the ice and make the atmosphere of Burbank Ice Arena more exciting than it already is. I know that the team has been attempting to get the band to games for some time now, and if this happened I believe that everyone would be happy about this new change to Reading hockey home games. Having the band in between puck drops would add an exciting new aspect to the game that we have not had before. This could possibly get more people at the games and bring even more attention to the dominant Reading Rockets hockey team that is top 10 in the state at the moment.
Having the band at the football games has given them great recognition for people to go to their competitions. At these games they have proven to the Reading public how good they are and that the titles they hold are well deserved. They have impacted the RMHS games so much and are so underappreciated.
The band has added a ton to the RMHS football experience. Just imagine what they could do to our hockey program. We have seen this done at the collegiate level and it makes the game so much more fun and gets the fans more into the game. This would be a great addition to our already great RMHS hockey program and the already amazing atmosphere for a home game at Burbank Arena.
Someone, please make it happen!
