With the robotic build season coming to a close, the RMHS Robotics Team has made considerable progress in preparing for their upcoming competition in Salem, New Hampshire beginning on March 3rd.

For those that may not know, the RMHS Robotics Team has had a great deal of success in competing in the New England District of the First Robotics Competition. The team placed first at the last in-person competition which was held at RMHS.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions that ensued, this meet will be the RMHS Robotics Team’s first real competition in two years. Teams are still recovering from challenges caused by the pandemic. Mr. Strout, the team advisor, said, “All teams have kind of had a lot of setbacks as far as retaining information (and) retaining skills.”

With the competition deadline coming soon, the RMHS Robotics Team is trying its best to complete their robot. “Our robot is not finished yet, we’re still building it, and so, it’s a little hard to judge how good it’s going to be at the tasks that it’s got to do. Based on the design that we have designed, I think we have designed a really good robot,” Mr. Strout said.

The members on the team are putting their full effort into the robot. Design team member, Sabine May (‘22) said, “We meet everyday after school for two hours. On weekends we meet from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.”

Despite delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, snow days, and a large addition of new members who required training, the team holds a positive attitude towards the upcoming competition. President Dylan Wolter (‘22) said, “I’m really hopeful how we will do this year.”

The RMHS Robotics Team will travel to Salem on March 3rd for load-in day. The competition will begin on March 4th and will conclude on March 5th.
