The RMHS boys’ basketball team reflected on their success this season after several exciting wins as they prepare for the upcoming state tournament.

Seniors Pat DuRoss, Carter Fox, Eric Petterossi, and Loyal Alexander have led the team to a 10-8 record this season. Despite many challenges throughout their careers, they have brought the team together and are preparing to make a deep run in the state tournament.

Mr. Morrissey, head coach and history teacher at RMHS, stated that he is proud of his seniors for their perseverance and dedication to the team through COVID challenges. He said, “They’ve dealt with this for three years, and I think people forget that sometimes.” The current seniors had a short junior basketball season last year and had their sophomore school year cut short in the spring. “The four of them have done a fantastic job, they’ve handled it very well.”

Senior Eric Petterossi reflected on the season as well. He stated, “It was tough last year with a lot of COVID restrictions. This year we have had a great season, and I love playing with all my teammates, and it’s good to have fans back.”

Junior Jesse Doherty attributed a lot of the team’s success to the senior leadership. He said, “The seniors have impacted the team greatly this year…they have really helped develop the team as a whole.”

The team had a few tough losses early on in the season, but have turned it on recently with six straight wins, including a convincing 55-38 victory against Somerville on Tuesday, and a 46-43 win over Lexington on Wednesday night. Senior captain Pat DuRoss explained the turning point in the season was after a tough loss against Woburn. “The Woburn game was a really heartbreaking loss because we lost on a buzzer-beater, but after that, it seemed like it really pushed us to another level because we haven’t lost a game since. It just seems like we’re working hard in practice and working hard on the court.”

The team’s next game will be a rematch at Somerville on Friday, February 18 at 7 pm.
