Robockets Gearing Up for Return to Competition

The RMHS robotics team, The Robockets, is making their highly anticipated return after last year’s disappointing virtual year of competition with the team experiencing a record high new member turnout.

Senior Dylan Wolter, the team’s technical president for the 2021-2022 school year, has described the amount of new potential team members as “The biggest turnout I’ve ever seen.” The team’s optimism is through the roof this year, with the team making their return to competition after what many would describe as a disappointing year.

As far as competitions go this year, Wolter believes that competitions should return to the pre-covid normal of robot against robot, after a subpar year of what he called “Shooting balls against walls.” The only real restrictions that are expected are, of course, masks being required and the fact that there could be a limited number of team members allowed at the actual competitions.

The Robockets will be meeting two days a week in the fall, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 P.M. However, once “kickoff” starts on the first Saturday of the New Year, Wolter expects that the team will be able to meet every weekday from 7-9 and from 5-9 on weekends.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Robockets team, like Freshman Aiden Kelley who said he and his friends are extremely excited for this season of competition, there are multiple ways of getting involved.
