2024-2025 saw 80+ student-produced articles published on The Orbit. From all of your sports, fine arts, opinions, and feature stories, here are my choices for the top five articles published during last school year.
#5: A Bit of Everything at Activity Fair
This piece by Lauren Downing (‘25) and Benjamin Cramer (‘25) did an exceptional job highlighting clubs that went unnoticed: the Environmental Club and the Book Club. By sharing the story of these two clubs, we get to see the true importance of the activities fair. All activities, even our smaller groups, can go to outer space.
#4: Commentary: You Should Be Mad at The Red Sox
I’ll be honest: I’m a sucker for a good Boston Red Sox take. Michael Carroll (‘25) places blame on Red Sox ownership for the Red Sox’s struggles since the 2018 World Series. He highlighted major roster decisions like trading Chris Sale and Mookie Betts for reasons to be disappointed. The bottom line was that ownership needed to be held accountable.
#3: Cars Damage Fields This Winter
This investigative piece by Riley Learned (‘25) and Benjamin Peterson (‘25) dives into a vandalism incident in Moscariello Park. This piece balanced the legal and RMHS perspective extremely well to present the severity of the situation. In addition, the piece highlights how even with this act, it wouldn’t really hinder the 2024-2025 baseball season.
#2: Kindness at the Cross Walk
This touching feature story the life and impact of a Reading crossing guard, Linda Burns. Gabriella Huizenga (‘25) put us right into the setting of a street environment, though this time to highlight an unsung hero. This piece sheds light to the day-to-day responsibilities of a crossing guard, Ms. Burns’ impact on Reading as a whole, and her unwavering kindness.
#1: Please Replace the Single-Wide Doorway
Every RMHS student knows the feeling of being absolutely invalidated leaving and entering the fourth floor doorway. Andrew McCarthy (‘25) highlighted the major inconvenience the design has been at his time at RMHS. His piece adds a touch of humor to a completely universal experience.
