The question of who will succeed longtime coach Charlie Hardy as the next coach of the RMHS Boys Lacrosse team has been answered.
Mr. Robert Parkin, former defensive coordinator for the Rockets, will be taking up the Head Coach position. Players are more than content with the decision. Senior Ryan Crosby stated, “He’s definitely the guy to do it, at times it felt like he was our head coach last year.”
While Parkin will certainly have some big shoes to fill, he has been invested in Reading lacrosse for almost a decade and is no stranger to the program. Senior captain Matthew Goodreau commented, “Reading has not had any other [head] coach since [the program] started, and I think Parkin is really qualified. He’s been with the team for many years… and will put a defensive focus on this year.”
Parkin coached the freshmen team for two years, the JV for four additional years, and in the most recent years has been the Varsity defensive coordinator, clearly earning the respect and trust of his players.
While Coach Hardy’s retirement may have been a blow to the program, the Reading Boys Lacrosse team is strong, and with the leadership of Coach Parkin there will be no question of confidence within Reading this season.
