The RMHS Student Council is currently planning the Thanksgiving Pep Rally that will take place in the Hawkes Field House on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
The Thanksgiving Pep Rally has been a longstanding tradition at RMHS. Ms. Lynch, the student council advisor from 2019-2023 retired last year and Mrs. Cestrone and Mrs. Clawson have taken over. They are joined by president Jacqueline Berner (’24), the other officers and over thirty general student council members. The group has been busy preparing for this year’s rally since September, hoping to breathe some new life into the tradition and set themselves apart from the Homecoming Pep Rally that took place in October.
Student council advisor Mrs. Cestrone gave an overview of what students can expect. “At this year’s Thanksgiving pep rally, there’s going to be a door prize. So you get a raffle ticket when you walk in and then two people in the audience or one person in the audience will win a prize. There’s new games that you haven’t seen before. Also there will be music and things like that.” In addition, there will be appearances from the RMHS cheerleaders, marching band and robotics team.
Senior Dan Agami added that there will be a “Pie in the Face” competition for teachers. He said, “The teachers that are getting “pied” will be selected along with the students who get to pie them.” The week leading up to the pep rally, student council members will be set up at all three lunches where students will be able to put money in the jar of the teacher they want to see get a pie in the face. The teacher who earns the most will win the pie prize. All proceeds will go to the Student Council to fund school events and support service projects throughout the year.
The big question on everyone’s mind is whether or not this year will bring the return of the beloved Reading Rocket mascot. Senior and Student Council President Jackie Berner revealed, “The Rocket Mascot is going to be there for the first time in seven years, so that should be cool.” With lots of participation from the students and faculty, this year’s Thanksgiving Pep Rally should be one for the books.
