RMHS is giving interested students the opportunity to attend the upcoming Atlanta, Georgia school trip during February break of 2024, providing them with a great chance to visit another state and learn about civil rights.
For the first time ever, RMHS is offering the “Civil Rights Movement in Atlanta” school trip to all students. This excursion is 5 days long and will be filled with tons of activities and sightseeing throughout the historically rich city of Atlanta.
The organizer of this trip, EMBARC Program paraeducator Ms. Lestrade explained, “I picked it because it is something that has never been done before and because we are starting some different classes this year like the diversity, race, and ethic class, so I thought this would be a nice extension to learning some more about civil rights history.” This Atlanta trip will provide students with great learning opportunities through its many tours and activities. Some of these opportunities include touring the Georgia State Capitol building, visiting the APEX museum, touring both Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, and much more. The full itinerary for all five days of this trip can be found on the EF Explore America website, under the “Civil Rights Movement in Atlanta” trip.
Ms. Lestrade briefly touches upon the price of this trip because oftentimes cost is a big deciding factor on whether or not a student can attend. She said, “It is roughly about $3,000.” When looking at the trip details on the EF website, it also explains how you can get $200 off when you sign up early.
There are already 7 students registered and Ms. Lestrade says they “are hoping to get at least 20 students signed up, maybe more.”
