The Reading Rockets football team will take on the Arlington Spyponders on Friday, October 6th at RMHS during Homecoming.
Reading will go head-to-head with Arlington during an especially important week at RMHS, one filled with student activities, including a kickoff party, theme days, a pep rally, and a homecoming dance.
Players and coaches will need to find a balance between Homecoming events and practices. The Rockets, currently 0-4, are looking to pick up their first win against Arlington, who is 2-2.
Mr. Blanchard of the History department and defensive coordinator for the football team said, “We have to adjust to losing James Murphy last year and not throwing the ball as much.” James Murphy (‘23) was the starting quarterback on varsity for four years and was a star for the team over the last couple of years. He graduated this past year and is now playing for Brown University. His younger brother Jack is now taking over as the starter.
Mr. Blanchard added, “We’ve just tried to emphasize things we haven’t been doing in games that have held us back. We are trying to just get better every day.”
Linebacker Mark Tango (’24) commented on the leadership of the team. “Our leadership has been better and we’ve installed it into the team to start taking responsibility for the mistakes we’ve made.” Captains Sean Crowley (‘24) and Josh Robichaud (‘24) both set examples for the younger players, hustling on defense and offense and keeping the team morale high even through some tough losses. The team is hoping for their first win this Friday night.
